Songs for the lovers and haters in the world.
Written by Sophie Farrar

There are two types of people in the world: those who love Valentine’s Day and those who hate it. Beyond the holiday, these people can be divided into two broader groups: romantics, who love love, and realists, dare I say, pessimists, who loathe love.
These groups are not exclusive to those who are single and those who are in relationships. Not all realists are single and not all romantics are seeing someone. There are plenty of single people who love Valentine’s Day for its aesthetic, whimsy and celebration of all forms of love, not just romance, and there are plenty of people in relationships who have disdain for the holiday for its capitalistic superficialism.
Suffice to say, Valentine’s Day, February, the lonesome winter months and “cuffing season” (the time where single people look for short term relationships for the colder months of the year) are a different experience for these two groups of people.
While Valentine’s Day has passed, bringing the unofficial end to “cuffing season,” love itself does not have an expiration date.
To help romantics and realists get through the last few weeks of winter and the rest of a year full of love of all kinds, I’ve comprised two playlists. The first is for romantics, and is full of songs celebrating all forms of love: platonic, familial and romantic. The second playlist is for realists. Think anti-love songs and break up anthems.
