Leaving messages for women who inspire us.
Written by Faith-Ann G. English

“Every woman’s success should be an inspiration to another. We’re strongest when we cheer each other on.” - Serena Williams
Women are responsible for the existence of the human race. During Women’s History Month, we celebrate the collective efforts of all the women who came before us. There are so many women who are deserving of our appreciation, so we decided to share some special words with them and you!
To my mom, Marsha English,
I am so glad that I had the opportunity to be raised by you. I never knew the person you could have become, but I am glad to have known the person who loved me unconditionally. You inspired me to become the person I am today. I never would have chosen to follow my dreams without your encouragement. I love you so much and miss you even more than words can say!

Your daughter, Faith-Ann English

To Monica Zilke,
Hey, Mom, according to the Oxford English Dictionary, the definition of influence is, “to affect the mind or action of something.” Throughout my life, there have been thousands of moments where I wanted to quit everything. I wanted to quit school, quit doing things I loved, quit seeing my friends, quit standing up for myself, quit taking care of myself and even quit living. You have encouraged and empowered me to keep moving and keep loving 1,001 times, helping me to my feet and wiping my tears every single time. I have felt so unworthy of that love, but every time I achieve something I didn't think was possible, I know that I can turn around and see you cheering for me. Know that every leap I have taken is because I know you're the net that makes sure I won't fall, and that the only reason I know I am capable is because you have put some of my darkest thoughts to bed and have empowered me with the nerve to want better and do better. You are my mentor, my idol and the strongest woman I know, and I can't wait to share the next breathless moments of my life with your hand on my shoulder. I love you so much, Mom.

To Sara Aparicio,
Mom, you are truly my favorite person in the world. You are also the strongest person I know. You inspire me with your intelligence, patience and silliness even in hard times. You always make people laugh, whether intentionally or unintentionally, and are always ready to gossip with me when I call. We both know that we are much alike, and I only wish that one day people will say the same stuff about me that they already say about you. I love you!

Izzy Aparicio

To Faith Wyse,
Thank you for encouraging me to continue with my silly little stories. Your faith (no pun intended) in me has been the driving force behind my entire career. The confidence to submit my work wouldn’t have come without you. Your hard work and determination has been the backbone of this family for generations and I hope to be half the person you are.

Miranda Wyse

To Hailey Shane,
Hailey Shane is one of my best friends and has accomplished plenty of achievements in her life. Not only is she hardworking, but she is a woman in STEM with a high GPA, who really prioritizes her schoolwork. The amount of times I’ve watched her study to ace her tests, to the point where we’ve referred to study tools as her “flash card bible” is too many to count. She receives nothing but the best of grades thanks to her hard work and dedication, while also being able to juggle all the other aspects of life that are thrown her way. She is truly inspiring and I wish to have her level of resilience.

Evan Peters

To Abby Jarvis, Emma Smallwood and Celeste Zirm,
To my best friends, you all have inspired me so much since we met my freshman year of college. Our friendship is so important to me and has been crucial to my college experience. Meeting you all is easily the best thing I've gotten out of college, except for maybe my degree once I finally get it. Seeing you all graduate last year and pursue your dreams has made graduating seem so much less daunting to me as someone who is doing so in May. It makes me so happy to see you all find joy in doing the things you love, whether that's Celeste working at Disney World, Emma reaffirming her love for teaching or Abby being cast in theater productions. You all are divas, queens, legends and girlbosses, and I love you all so much.

To Dawn Aliberti,
Professor Aliberti, I want to thank you dearly for the way you have impacted my life in such a short amount of time. My first year at Cleveland State University has been long and filled with obstacles. You made the transition much more bearable, with your classes being my favorite ones to attend each semester. Through your own struggles you strive to make your students laugh and engage in class, and give us a fun way to learn sociological concepts. I want you to remember to take care of yourself and make sure you're doing well. You really mean a lot to me, and for Women's History Month, I want to make sure this campus knows your strength and glow.

From moms to grandmothers to friends and even professors, there will always be a woman or two in our lives that will leave a great impact. During the month of March, make it a goal to turn to your favorite woman and let them know how much you appreciate them. Happy Women’s History Month! Thank you to all the women who came before us. Your contributions made us who we are today.
